Come to the Garden

Come to the Garden

Jesus is calling us to come to His garden, where the scents are sweet and the flowers abounding with life and color. His care for each tender plant is impeccable. As we walk on through what joy we find in seeing all his beautiful handiwork. I'm referring here to times when we pray. Our prayer time is like spending time in God's garden. He calls us early in the morning while the “dew is still on the roses” and everything seems so fresh and new. That's what our prayer life should be like, rising early to see what new and beautiful things the Lord wants to reveal to us. He has a way of bringing things to our attention in the mornings like we really can't get any other time of day. I know when I pray in the afternoon the cares of this life have already filled my thinking which makes it hard to concentrate on the Lord's divine presence and fullness. He wants to speak to us but we just have to be calm and sensitive enough to listen. Sometimes our electronics, media, or work get in the way but God wants to invite each of us to His Garden today. Will you spend time in His Garden this week?

Here's a lovely song written by Charles Austin Miles (1912)
called “In the Garden”.

I come to the garden alone
While the dew is still on the roses
And the voice I hear falling on my ear
The Son of God discloses.
Refrain

And He walks with me, and He talks with me,
And He tells me I am His own;
And the joy we share as we tarry there,
None other has ever known.

He speaks, and the sound of His voice,
Is so sweet the birds hush their singing,
And the melody that He gave to me
Within my heart is ringing

I’d stay in the garden with Him
Though the night around me be falling,
But He bids me go; through the voice of woe
His voice to me is calling.
